This project is part of my Faux Falloween Crafting Event where I’m sharing a new Fall or Halloween Cricut craft every day for 10 days.

I’ll show you how to make these pretty fall leaf napkin rings that will really dress up your fall or Thanksgiving table this year.

These napkin rings are easy to make, and you can customize them with different faux leather textures, colors and and prints. The top layer with the leaf veins is optional, and will cut from heat transfer vinyl. This project is a great way to use up those leftover vinyl scraps and create something fun for the Fall season.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Choose an assortment of fall colored faux leather solids, prints and patterns. Decide which faux leather you want to use for the top, middle, and bottom layers of the leaf design.

Then choose a heat transfer vinyl that contrasts with the top leaf color. A strong contrast will help the leaf veins show up more on the top leaf layer.

Step 2: Unzip the download folder. Then open a blank canvas in Cricut Design Space and upload the SVG files for this project by clicking on the Upload button on the left hand size and choosing the unzipped SVG file.

Step 3: Click the MAKE IT button.

When the mat previews load, toggle the MIRROR button on for all three mats because faux leather and heat transfer vinyl cut in reverse. Then drag your shapes away from the side and top edges of the mat a little. Click Continue.

Step 4: Choose the Faux Leather (Paper Thin) setting with “more” pressure for the faux leather mat. Then choose the appropriate material setting for the vinyl mat recommended by your vinyl’s manufacturer.

Step 5: I like to trim my faux leather and vinyl into pieces just slightly larger than the shapes that are going to cut.

I strongly recommend doing this for the faux leather just to help the pieces stick better to the mat, but this is optional for your heat transfer vinyl mat.

Place your faux leather pretty side down on the purple strong grip mat and press it down firmly. Secure the edges with blue painter’s tape to prevent any movement during the cut.

Step 6: When the cut is complete, don’t unload the mat just yet. Use a sharp weeding tool to lift up a cut edge to see if the shape cut all the way through.

If not, rerun the cut by pressing the Cut button again. You can do this as many times as needed as long as you haven’t unloaded the mat.

Remove the faux leather from the mat and trim away any fuzzy edges. Repeat cutting the other faux leather mats.

Set aside the faux leather leaf shapes and return to Design Space to cut the heat transfer vinyl mat (or skip the vinyl layer and proceed to the next step).

Remove the cut vinyl layers from the mat and weed away the excess.

Step 7: Next press the heat transfer vinyl onto the top faux leather leaf shape.

Place the top leaf shape on a heat pressing pad. Then place the vinyl layer on top. Cover with a Teflon cover sheet, butcher paper, or parchment paper.

Use your EasyPress Mini set on low (or a regular EasyPress at around 265°F) to press the vinyl to the faux leather. Once pressed, remove the carrier sheet and set the leaf aside to cool.

Tip: Usually I place pressed faux leather under my heat pressing pad to make the shape cool nice and flat. However in this case, we want the leaves to curl at the edges a little and have some dimension, so I let them cool naturally. I also pressed the other leaves for about 5-10 seconds (even though no vinyl was being applied) to help this curling process.

Step 8: Now it’s time to glue the leaves together. I used my Surebonder Cordless Mini Glue Gun with Mini Gorilla Glue Sticks.

Glue the top leaf to the middle leaf. Then the middle leaf to the bottom leaf. Only apply glue in the center of the leaves if you want to encourage the edges to curl more.

Then glue the leaves to the napkin ring of your choice. Hold the leaves firmly on the napkin ring until the glue holds.

And there you have it—festive fall napkin rings ready to adorn your autumn table!
