How To Avoid HTV Press Lines on Faux Leather with a Cricut
How To Avoid HTV Press Lines on Faux Leather with a Cricut

If you love making faux leather projects with your Cricut but struggle with getting press lines when applying heat transfer vinyl, you are not alone!
This is one of the questions I get asked most often as a Cricut faux leather crafting expert, and I have the solution for you!
But first – not sure what a press line is?
When you press HTV onto faux leather, sometimes the edges of the clear carrier sheet leave a visible box pressed into the material. It can really distract from an otherwise beautiful project.
So I’m going to show you the simple trick I use to avoid press lines completely. Once you learn how it works, you’ll never press faux leather the same way again.
This technique works whether you’re pressing onto faux leather sheets, jewelry boxes, pouches, keychains, or other faux leather accessories.
Ready to get started? Let’s dive into my technique and the supplies I used!
Step 1: Watch the Video Tutorial
This technique of avoiding press lines in faux leather when using heat transfer vinyl is best demonstrated through a video tutorial.

Answers to your questions about avoiding HTV press lines on faux leather
Q: Which Cricut machines will cut faux leather?
A: You can cut faux leather with any of the current Cricut machines because they all cut faux leather with the standard fine point blade included with each machine. For this project you can use the Cricut Maker, Cricut Maker 3, Cricut Maker 4, Cricut Explore 4, Cricut Explore 3, Cricut Explore Air 2, the Cricut Joy, or the Cricut Joy Xtra.
Q: What do I need to press heat transfer vinyl onto faux leather?
A: To press heat transfer vinyl onto faux leather you’ll need a traditional heat press, Cricut EasyPress, or Cricut EasyPress Mini. I used a Cricut EasyPress Mini for this project because it’s great with pressing small projects like earrings, keychains, and accessories. It’s important to use a heat pressing pad to protect your work surface and a cover sheet like a Teflon sheet, butcher paper or parchment paper between your heat press and your faux leather.
Q: What temperature do I use when pressing HTV onto faux leather?
A: When I use my EasyPress Mini, I set the temperature to Low (the first green line) and press for 10-15 seconds with average pressure. For a regular EasyPress, I recommend setting the temperature to 265 degrees F and pressing for 10-15 seconds.
