I’m Amy Romeu, and in this tutorial I’ll be showing you how to make these fun Football Jersey Faux Leather Earrings with a Cricut.
The Super Bowl is just around the corner and we all love to cheer for our favorite player! So I created two easily customizable football jersey earring designs that will cut from faux leather with the Cricut Maker, Cricut Maker, 3, Cricut Explore 3, Cricut Explore Air 2, and even the Cricut Joy.
In the video tutorial, I’ll show you exactly how to personalize these with your player’s number using the Offset and Weld features in Cricut Design Space. The number and stripes layers will cut from heat transfer vinyl, and I’ll show you my best tips and tricks for pressing HTV onto faux leather.

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Starting with a blank canvas in Cricut Design Space, click on Upload, then Upload Image.

Browse to where the ALREADY UNZIPPED SVG file for this project is saved on your device.
Follow the upload prompts to bring the designs onto the canvas in Cricut Design Space.

When the designs have all loaded on the canvas, click UNGROUP in the top left of the layers panel.
First chose the jersey version you want to make. The jersey design comes in two styles: one with just two colors and another with additional stripes for more detail.
I’ll be making both versions in this tutorial to show you how each one is different, but you can choose just one if you’d like.
Then choose if you want to make the pre-made holes version or the one without holes.
Use the without holes version if you want to resize the earrings to be much smaller or much larger, or if you want to use the SVG to create a different kind of project like decals, a t-shirt design, etc.
If you are resizing the earrings and want to re-make the earring hole again using Cricut Design Space, this video will help.
I recommend using the with holes version as I’ve sized them – hide or delete the other pair.

Click on the Upload button again and choose the set of player numbers that includes your player number (1-50 or 51-00). Follow the prompts to bring the set of numbers onto your canvas.

Click on the block of numbers and then click on Ungroup so you can delete all of the numbers except the ones you want to use.

Drag the number onto the jersey shape. Change the color if you’d like by clicking on the color box tool. Position the number on the jersey and adjust its size for a balanced look.

For the single color HTV design (on the right), make the number the same color as the stripes and neckline.
To ensure the HTV cuts as a single piece, select both the number and the neckline shape, then click Combine and Weld.
Since your first earring is sized, centered and welded as desired, use it to create the second earring in the pair. Delete the second earring, then select the completed design and click Duplicate.

For the two-layer HTV design (on the left), create an outline effect using the Offset feature in Design Space.

To do that, select the number, click Offset, and adjust the outline to about 0.027 inches. Be sure to click Apply so the offset layer will be created.

Once applied, the offset/outline becomes a separate layer. Change the offset/outline color to the same color as the stripes and neckline.

Drag your number on top of the offset/outline layer. Us the Align feature to center the two layers vertically and horizontally.

TIP: If small unwanted cuts appear in the offset, use the Contour feature to hide unnecessary cutouts before proceeding.
Then select the offset/outline layer and the stripes & neckline layer. Click on Combine and then Weld.
🤞Remember you can watch the video tutorial for this project to see these offset and contour features applied step by step.
Once your numbers are added and your vinyl layers are welded and finalized, click the MAKE IT button.
Choose “on a mat” for how the layers will cut.
STEP 2: Click on each mat on the left hand side and toggle the Mirror toggle ON. That’s because faux leather and heat transfer vinyl both cut in reverse.
TIP: If you are cutting two different color jerseys like I am, you can cut them both on the same mat if desired since they will cut from the same cut setting.
To do that, make them both same color before you leave the canvas, or click the 3 dots when you are in the mat preview screen and move one set of shapes to the other faux leather mat in the same color. Again, watch the video to see how to do this.

After all the mats are mirrored, go back through each one and drag the shapes apart from the edges and from each other.
Click the CONTINUE button.
When the material selection screen loads, click on the faux leather mat and then select the Faux Leather (Paper Thin) setting.
If you don’t have that setting bookmarked as a favorite like I do, you can click on Browse All Materials and search for it. (If you are using the Explore Air 2, you’ll need to turn your dial to Custom before you can find that setting in search.)

Then choose “More” from the dropdown Pressure menu.

Step 3: Cut two pieces of faux leather just slightly larger than earring shapes will cut from. The pieces will be large enough to cut out the earring back shapes without a lot of excess.
💡TIP: Before you cut the faux leather earring shapes, you can add some heat transfer vinyl to the back of the faux leather. This is an optional step that will make the earrings firmer without adding bulk. It will also give your earrings a finished back.
📺To watch a video tutorial on putting a back on faux leather earrings, click here.
Place the faux leather pretty side down (HTV side up if you did that step) on a purple strong grip cutting mat.

Place blue painter’s tape around all sides of the faux leather. Load the mat into the Cricut and begin the cut.
When the cut is complete, before unloading the mat, lift a small edge of the cut to ensure the cuts went through. Repeat the cut if needed by pressing the cut button again.

Once the shapes are cut through, remove the shapes from the mat.
Use your sharp weeding tool to poke out the earring hole. Make the hole complete if necessary using a 1/16″ hole punch.

Return to Design Space and cut the heat transfer vinyl mat(s). Weed away the excess HTV and cut the different layers apart.

Organize your vinyl and faux leather layers on a heat pressing pad.

Step 4: Use an EasyPress Mini set to the Low setting or a regular EasyPress or heat press to about 265 degrees F.
Place your faux leather shape on the heat pressing pad. Layer your heat transfer vinyl layer onto the faux leather jersey shape.

For the design with two vinyl colors, refer to the Layering Guide below to know what layers to press in which order.

Cover with a cover sheet like a Teflon sheet, butcher paper, or parchment paper.
Press for 7-10 seconds. Let the vinyl cool for about 30 seconds. Then slowly try to peel away the clear carrier sheet.

If the vinyl lifts up, cover and press again until you can remove the clear carrier sheet easily.
Repeat pressing the second earring.

If you are pressing the two vinyl layer design, press the bottom layer on each earring and then press the second HTV layer.

Step 5: Using flat nose jewelry making pliers and 6mm jump rings, attach the jersey earrings to the earrings hooks.

Start by turning the bottom loop on the earring hooks so they face forward. This will make your earrings hang forward.
For a complete step by step tutorial on this technique in more detail, watch this video.

Repeat attaching earring hooks to all the football jersey earrings.

That’s it! Aren’t these Personalized Football Jersey Faux Leather Earrings cute?
