This Faux Leather Winter Tree Purse Charm made with a Cricut is the perfect accessory for the holidays!

In this tutorial I’ll show you how easy it is to cut and assemble this purse charm using faux leather and 6mm rivets. The SVG file is available in my shop if you want to make this project!

• Faux Leather
• I used prints from this set and this solid green.
• For both prints I ordered 9×12 sheets, Regular Print, Portrait Orientation.
• Other Project Supplies
  • Rivets: 6mm x 6mm Rivets (includes rivet tools) and a hammer
  • Or use colorful 6mm x 6mm rivets to make this design a Christmas tree!

  • Blue Painters Tape
  • Small Curved Scissors
  • Purple Strong Grip Mat
  • Weeding Tool like a Pin Pen or like the one in the Cricut Basic Tool Set

Step 3: Make the Project

Set Up Your Design

1. Open a new canvas in Cricut Design Space.
2. Upload the SVG file for the Winter Tree Purse Charm to your canvas.
3. Recolor all of the shapes to be the same color if you want to cut them on the same mat (optional).

Prepare to Cut

1. Click Make It.
2. Mirror your mat(s), since you’ll be cutting the faux leather face down.
3. Position your faux leather shapes apart on the mat if cutting from different prints.
4. Choose the Faux Leather (Paper Thin) setting with More pressure.

Cut the Faux Leather

1. Place the faux leather pretty side down on a Strong Grip (purple) mat.
2. Secure all edges with blue painter’s tape.
3. Load the mat into your Cricut.
4. Press the C button to begin cutting.
5. When the cut is complete, without unloading the mat, use a sharp tool to gently lift the edge and check the cut.
6. Repeat the cut if necessary by pressing the cut button again.
7. Once the cut is complete, unload the mat and remove the shapes.

Assemble the Purse Charm

1. Line up the three three layers so the holes are lined up.
2. Push 6mm rivet posts through all of the rivet holes.
3. Place rivet caps onto the backs of the posts.
4. Use rivet tools and a hammer to flatten the rivets and secure the layers together tightly.

Your Winter Tree Purse Charm is complete! Wrap the long piece around your purse strap, thread the tree through the slit, and pull gently. Enjoy your festive holiday craft!

Q: Which Cricut machines will cut faux leather?
A: You can cut faux leather with any of the current Cricut machines because they all cut faux leather with the standard fine point blade included with each machine. For this project you can use the Cricut Maker, Cricut Maker 3, Cricut Maker 4, Cricut Maker 5, Cricut Explore 5, Cricut Explore 4, Cricut Explore 3, Cricut Explore Air 2, the Cricut Joy Xtra or the Cricut Joy/Cricut Joy 2 (with the 12 inch long Joy mat).

Q: What tools do I need to assemble the rivet?
A: The rivets I used are 6mm x 6mm in size (meaning the cap is 6mm round and the post is 6mm long). The rivets I purchased came with the tools you need to add the rivet to the purse charm. You just need a household hammer.
